A 3-Day trip to the magnificent Kushiro Marsh and the healing nature of eastern Hokkaido Arrive at Tancho Kushiro Airport and depart from Memanbetsu Airport

DAY 1

As the plane prepares to land, the scenery outside the window gets closer and closer, and your anticipation for the journey ahead builds as you begin to feel the grandeur of Hokkaido. After arriving at the airport, head to downtown Kushiro. At the Washo Market, the kitchen of Kushiro's residents, you can have a Katte don (bowl of rice) topped with salmon roe, crab, tuna, sweet shrimp, and other ingredients that you can choose yourself. The taste of fresh seafood will surely bring a smile to your face. After a hearty meal, head to Kushiro Marsh. Stay at Lake Akan Onsen for the first night and experience the Ainu legend at the Kamuy Lumina night walk in the forest.

Arrive at Tancho Kushiro Airport → (25 minutes by car) → Washo Market → (25 minutes by car) → Kushiro Marsh Observatory → (10 minutes by car) → Onnenai Visitor Center → (1 hour 10 minutes by car) → Lake Akan Onsen → Kamuy Lumina

DAY 2

Day 2 begins with a walk along the shores of Lake Akan. First, you will visit the Kushiro Ainu Culture Tradition Creation Center Onne Cise near the hot spring resort area, where you will take a guided tour of the forest to experience the Ainu spirit, Ainu embroidery, and wood carving of Ainu patterns. Next, go to Teshikaga Town Farm's "900 Grasslands," where more than 1,000 cows graze peacefully. Enjoy the view of the grasslands as far as the eye can see, and admire Lake Mashu, which is one of the clearest lakes in the world, from the observatory. Next, go to Kaminokoike Pond, which is fed by underground water from Lake Mashu. The mysterious scenery will leave you speechless for a while. You can also try the Sunayu (hot spring water that comes out when you dig) by Lake Kussharo, and join the Mashu Stargazing Tour at night. After a day full of fun, relax in the Kawayu Onsen.

DAY 3

On the last day, leave Kawayu Onsen and drive towards the Sea of Okhotsk. On the way, you will see the view of Lake Kussharo from Bihoro Pass. Lake Kussharo is the largest caldera lake in Japan, with a central island floating in the middle. As winter approaches, swans from Siberia can be seen resting their wings. The next stop is Lake Notoro, known for its coral grasses, which turn the surface of the lake red with their autumn colors until early October. Enjoy a stroll along the boardwalk. Have lunch at the Roadside Station Ryuhyokaido Abashiri, and enjoy local dishes such as Abashiri Champon and Dried Scallop Salt Ramen at the Kinemakan food court. After lunch, head to Lake Abashiri. Get out of the car and take a walk in the flower garden by the lake and take a deep breath. Bid farewell to the tranquil scenery and return home from Memanbetsu Airport.
