Kawayu Onsen

An acidic hot spring famous for its medicinal properties. A place of good old-fashioned hot springs benefiting from Mt. Io-zan

The hot spring water of Kawayu Onsen has been talked about for its sterilizing effect on some bacteria, and there are high hopes for its potential. It is characterized by its strong acidity, which can dissolve even nails in a few days, and has been popular as a medicinal bath since ancient times. Most of the facilities have 100% of their water flowing from the source, and when you soak in the hot water, you will feel a slight tingling sensation that promotes blood circulation and is said to be effective in treating skin diseases. Mt. Io-zan, the lifeblood of Kawayu Onsen, gurgles and fumes and is surrounded by the smell of sulfur. Be sure to take a side trip to Mt. Io-zan, the Tsutsujigahara Nature Trail at the foot of the mountain, and the Taiho Sumo Memorial Hall.
