Kaminokoike Pond

Mysterious pond with emerald blue water

Located in the northeast of Lake Mashu, Kaminokoike Pond is so transparent that you can clearly see the fallen trees sunken to the bottom at a depth of 5 meters, as well as the fish swimming near them. Depending on the weather, the surface of the water looks emerald blue, which is very mysterious. The water temperature is about 8 degrees Celsius, and the clear blue pond does not freeze even in winter. The name of the pond comes from the Ainu name for Lake Mashu, Kamuy-tou, which means “Lake of the Gods.” Thinking that this beautiful pond must be a gift from the gods, the people who inhabited these lands in the ancient times came to call it "God's Child Pond."
