DAY 1

After landing at New Chitose Airport, take a bus to Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Deck. The view from this observation deck will make you realize just how vast Hokkaido really is. Don’t forget to take a photo with the statue of Dr. Clark here. Take the bus and transfer to the subway to get to Susukino, the downtown area of Sapporo, the largest city in Hokkaido with a population of around 1.9 million people. Have lunch here by choosing from delicious local specialties such as ramen, soup curry, and Mongolian barbecue. After lunch, head to central Sapporo and take a walk through Odori Park, a sprawling park lined with office buildings and department stores that is around 1.5km long from east to west. Stroll through Odori Park while enjoying its vibrant greenery and beautiful flowers as you stop by landmarks such as the TV Tower, the Clock Tower, and the Former Hokkaido Government Office on the way.

When you’re done, take the train directly from Sapporo Station to Otaru, the neighboring town. For dinner, it’s highly recommended that you try the sushi here. Take a stroll along the canal at night to finish the first day of your trip in the perfect way.
