Hokkaido Government Old Main Building (Red Brick Building)

An important cultural asset of Western-style architecture, designed with approximately 2.5 million bricks.

The old brick building of the Hokkaido Government Office, built in 1888. It was nicknamed the "Red Brick Government Building" and was used for about 80 years until the completion of the current new government building. It is an American-style neo-baroque building, which is rare among Western-style buildings of the Meiji era, and is designated as an important cultural property of Japan.
