A 3-day ladies' vacation: Enjoy the sweets and beautiful scenery of Hokkaido In and out of Obihiro Airport

DAY 1

Your trip starts at Obihiro Zoo! The popular polar bears, Amur tigers, and other fascinating creatures welcome you. You can also meet Ezo tanuki, famous on social media for their cute appearance.

To take a break, head to Tokachi Toteppo Factory, renowned for its cheesecake made with natural cheese from Hokkaido. After enjoying the great tastes of "dairy kingdom" Hokkaido, head out to the former Japan National Railways Shihoro Line Concrete Arch Bridges, a piece of modern industrial heritage that speaks to the history of Hokkaido's development.

Representative of these is the Taushubetsu Bridge, said to be phantom-like as it disappears under the surface of the lake in season. The forest road leading to the bridge is closed to traffic other than permitted vehicles, so a guided tour is recommended. As you bask in the romance of history, head to Nukabiragensenkyo to stay the night. The naturally flowing hot springs here will heal bodies fatigued from walking.

DAY 2

The second day begins at Naitai Highland Farm, Japan's largest public pasture. The sight of the cows grazing in the meadow will let you set aside your busy everyday life. Enjoy rich soft-serve ice cream in the clean air of a spacious location at Naitai Terrace, near the highest point of the pasture. On the way, stop by Michi no Eki Pier 21 to fill up on a lunch of Shihoro beef, a local specialty of the town of Shihoro, and fresh vegetables from nearby farms, followed by a break at a cafe serving choice coffee. Driving afterward, Ikeda Wine Castle comes into view.

This spot has the appearance of an old castle, but is actually a grape and wine research institute. A tour course lets visitors freely explore the underground aging room and the museum.

After purchasing one of the limited-availability wines, it's off to Nakasatsunai Rural Vacation Village Feriendorf, a glamping resort nestled in a quiet forest. Here you can spend a wonderful evening with great food and wine in a glamping tent, and enjoy the great outdoors.

DAY 3

Enjoy picking out souvenirs on the last day of your trip. First, head to Hanabatake Farm.

Here you'll find a workshop for the creamy caramel that was big boom across the country, and a cafe serving cheese dishes covered in hot homemade raclette. In addition to sweets, the shop offers a wide variety of products including cheese and meat products.

To wrap up the trip, head to Rokkatei Obihiro Main Store, a standard spot for Hokkaido souvenirs. The highlights of the souvenirs here are of course the taste of the sweets, as well as the cute, retro wrapping paper and packaging. Head home with a head full of sweet and delicious memories.
