Shibazakura Takinoue Park
Japan's largest shiba-zakura (moss phlox), which fills an arena the size of about seven Tokyo Domes.
Shibazakura Takinoue Park started with a box full of shiba-zakura (moss phlox) seedlings. The shiba-zakura has been multiplying every year since and has now become a large colony covering the hillside of the park on a scale of about 100,000 square meters. A variety of events are held during the Shibazakura Festival, which runs for about a month from early May to early June. Helicopter flights are also available. Also nearby is the Takinoue Gorge (Kinsenkyo), where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the promenade. The contrast in color between the pink shiba-zakura, the fresh greenery, and the lingering snow on the top of the mountain is a sight not to be missed.
