Cape Nosappu

The easternmost cape on the Hokkaido mainland, with the Northern Territories stretching out before you

The easternmost point in Japan, Cape Nosappu is famous for being the first place to see the sunrise in Hokkaido, and on New Year's Day many people come to greet the First Sunrise of the Year. At the tip of the cape, the oldest lighthouse in Hokkaido stands proudly as a symbol of the area, and the Northern Territories, such as Kaigara Island, Suisho Island in the Habomai Archipelago and Kunashiri Island, spread out in front of you. Around the cape, you can also find the Bridge to the Four Islands, a monument praying for the early return of the Northern Territories, the Hoppokan (Northern Museum) and the Peace Tower.
