Goto Sumio Art Museum

The museum began as the studio of the famous Japanese painter Sumio Goto, who was attracted to the harsh nature of Hokkaido and set up his studio in Kamifurano at the foot of Mt. Tokachi. For his Japanese paintings he used paints extracted from natural gems (such as lapis lazuli, platinum, crystal and malachite), creating very colorful and beautiful works that fascinate viewers and draw them into the artist’s world. There are also many large works on display, and you will be overwhelmed by the one that is 14 meters wide.
