Sarobetsu Wetland and Sarobetsu Wetland Center

More than 100 kinds of flowers bloom in the marshland. The best time to see them is in early summer.

At the center of the 20,000-hectare Sarobetsu Plain is the Sarobetsu Wetland, one of the three largest marshlands in Japan. You can enjoy the magnificent scenery from the window of a car on Route 40, but visiting the Sarobetsu Wetland Center, built at the entrance to the marshland, is also recommended. There is a 1km long wooden pathway around the site, and, from spring to autumn, you can enjoy more than 100 kinds of flowers and wild birds up close.
