Ryusei-Ginga Falls

The Ryusei-Ginga Falls cascade down a steep canyon. These famous waterfalls, which are listed in the 100 Best Waterfalls in Japan, will impress you!

A 24-km stretch of columnar jointing cliffs, the Sounkyo Gorge, which has been carved deep by the Ishikari River, features many waterfalls cascading down it. Among them, the Ryusei-Ginga Falls, with two waterfalls flowing side by side, is so spectacular that it has been selected as one of the Top 100 Waterfalls in Japan. The thick and powerful flow of the Ryusei Waterfall is masculine, while the Ginga Waterfall is feminine, reminiscent of a delicate white thread. For this reason, they are also called Odaki (male waterfall) and Medaki (male waterfall). A 20-minute uphill walk with the waterfalls as a backdrop will lead you to the Sobakudai viewpoint, where you can see the waterfalls flowing on either side of Fudo Rock.
