Higashi-takasu Rice Paddy Art
Don't miss this giant rice paddy art with an elaborate design that's only available for a one-month period from mid-July every year!
The Higashi-takasu rice paddy art is an initiative that was launched in 2006. Every year, as many as 350 people gather to plant rice by hand to lay the groundwork for the art as they take part in biological field surveys and rice-planting activities for families. Paddy leaves of different hues are used, and as these leaves gradually become more vibrant in color, a giant design comes into view within the paddy field from mid-July to mid-August. The paddy art varies from year to year, and once you've been to this lovely spot, you can't help but wonder what next year's design will be!
