The 2,077-meter-high Tokachi-dake, the main peak of the Tokachi-dake federation in the Daisetsuzan National Park, is one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan. From the top of the mountain, you can see the volcanoes lined up almost in a row, which is called "the roof of Hokkaido", and the magnificent view of the mountains, which attracts many climbers. It is also one of the earliest places in Hokkaido to see the autumn leaves, which are usually at their best from late September to October, and the vividness of the pine and birch trees is mesmerizing. The climbing course, which takes about four hours round trip from the Fukiage Onsen trailhead, offers a panoramic view of Mount Kamihorokamettoku and Mount Tokachi from the top of the mountain. In autumn, it is also a spectacular spot for viewing the autumn leaves of Mt. Tokachi, and in winter it is a popular spot for mountain skiing. A 10-minute walk from the trailhead will take you to the open-air hot spring in the Fukiage Rest Plaza, which is free and open all day, where you can wash away the sweat of climbing.
