Toyako Onsen

A hot spring resort in the Lake Toya Usu Geopark, which still bears the scars of the eruption

Toyako Onsen has been open for more than 100 years since the volcanic eruption that triggered the gush of hot spring water. There are many hot spring facilities, including inns with beautiful views of the third largest caldera lake in Japan. Toyako Onsen is characterized by its clear, colorless water that is popular among all. The town of Usu, where Lake Toya is located, has been recognized as one of the "Global Geoparks" for the site of the eruption of Mount Usu in 2000. From the promenade, you can feel the energy of the earth that changed the topography, such as the remains of cinder cones that crushed buildings and twisted roads. In the direction of Lake Toya, you can enjoy picking fruits, buying and eating boiled corn at the vegetable market, and other seasonal delicacies that you can taste along the way.
