Chitose Aquarium, home of salmon

A variety of freshwater fish, especially salmon, are on display! The aquarium that recreates the blue color of Lake Shikotsu is a sight to behold!

The aquarium is located inside the Hokkaido Roadside Station Salmon Park, and has the largest freshwater fish tank in Hokkaido. Don't miss the "Underwater Observation Zone," the first facility of its kind in Japan, which appears in the basement of the aquarium. This facility allows visitors to look into the bottom of the Chitose River, which flows right next to the aquarium, and see the fish swimming in their natural habitat through the glass. You can enjoy the scenery of the river bottom, which changes with the seasons, showing a variety of colors, such as juvenile salmon in spring, red carp in summer, and schools of salmon running upstream in autumn. There will also be many fun events, such as the "Kamon Salmon Gohan Damon," a time for fish to eat, so please take this opportunity to enjoy the Chitose Aquarium.
