Rishiri Fuji

A famous mountain in Japan that attracts many climbers with its elevation of 1721 meters

Many visitors to Rishiri Island aim for Rishiri Fuji, and there are two ways to reach the summit: from the Oshidomari or from Kutsugata. The Oshidomari hiking course is about 8.4km to the summit, and takes about 6 hours to ascend and 4.5 hours to descend. From Kutsugata, it is about 9.2 km from the fifth station, which is accessible by car, to the summit, taking about 6 hours to climb and 5 hours to descend. A variety of alpine plants, including the flower that gives Rishiri its name, bloom along the trail, and from the summit you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the entire island, the mainland of Hokkaido, and even the shadow of Sakhalin Island if the conditions are right.
