Yagishiri Island

A green island where alpine plants and virgin forests spread out and sheep play in the meadows.

One third of the island is covered with virgin forest of various tree species. The island is about 12 km in circumference, and there are many places to see that are unique to Yagishiri Island, such as Onko-no-so, with its branches spreading out like crawling on the ground, Uguisu Valley, with its dense growth of broad-leaved and coniferous trees, and Hibarigaoka Park, where you can enjoy beautiful alpine plants and bird watching. There is also a sheep farm in the center of the island where you can see Suffolk sheep grazing peacefully. The Suffolk sheep from Yashiri are prized in French cuisine, and you can enjoy their taste at the annual "Menyo Festival."
