Otaru City Nishin Goten
A lively life in a banya (guard house), where people enjoyed fishing for herring
Otaru City Nishin Goten was built in 1897 and later moved to its current location in 1958 by Hokkaido Coal Mine Steamship Company. The building was donated to Otaru City. The museum displays tools used for "Nishin fishing" and "Nishin processing" as well as daily life tools and photos of people who lived in the guardhouse. Visitors can also experience the working style of those days.
