Shiretoko Rausu

A view point from which you can see Mt. Rausu to the west and Kunashiri Island to the east

This roadside station is located at the entrance to the Shiretoko Crossing Road, on the Rausu side. This is one of the best places in the world to see the drift ice and encounter cetaceans such as sperm whales and killer whales, birds of prey such as Steller's sea eagles and white-tailed sea eagles, and marine mammals such as seals. The area is also famous as a fishing ground where a wide variety of seafood can be caught throughout the year, including tokishirazu salmon, budo-ebi shrimps, squid, and sea urchins. Visit the stores and restaurants that sell seafood and other specialties, and enjoy the fresh taste of Rausu.
