Nabetsuru Rock

A strange rock symbol of the island! Also recommended at night when it is lit up.

The symbol of Okushiri Island, Nabetsuru-iwa is a rock with a unique shape that resembles the arched handle of a pot and is the origin of its name. This natural arch is said to have been formed by the gradual collapse of soft parts of the rock due to wave and wind erosion. On the side of the island coastal road, there is an observatory that makes a great spot for taking pictures. The rock is lit up at night, and if the timing is right, you can see the fantastic sight of the fishing lights in the background. It is also worth visiting in the early morning when, with the sun coming up behind it, the rock is shrouded in a mystical aura. Enjoy a relaxing time on Okushiri Island while admiring views of its beloved symbol.
