Lake Toyoni
An emerald heart surrounded by greenery.
Located in Erimo Town, Lake Toyoni is the only natural lake in the Hidaka-sanmyaku Erimo Quasi-National Park. Surrounded by dense virgin forest, when viewed from above the surface of the lake looks like a beautiful and mysterious emerald heart embedded among the trees. The shape of the lake also resembles a horse's hoof, which is why it is also called Lake Batei (horseshoe). If you are lucky, around the lakeside you can hear the distinctive high-pitched call of the pikas, small, rabbit‑like mammals that live only in Hokkaido. The walk from the parking lot to the lakeside is about 200 meters, through a natural forest and over uneven terrain, so please be careful with your footing.
