Hakodate Jomon Culture Exchange Center

A museum that permanently exhibits Hokkaido's first National Treasure—the hollow clay figurine (dogū)

This museum, located adjacent to the roadside station “Jōmon Roman Minamikayabe,” features a permanent exhibition of Hokkaido’s first National Treasure—the hollow clay figurine (dogū). The museum showcases a wide array of artifacts such as earthenware and stone tools excavated from the Jōmon archaeological sites in Hakodate, particularly the Minami-Kayabe Jōmon site group. Visitors can also immerse themselves in the world of Jōmon culture, one of Japan’s cultural treasures, through eight different hands-on activities, including miniature pottery making and accessory crafting. The roadside station offers a selection of Jōmon-themed souvenirs and local specialty products for purchase.
