Mt. Iozan

Feel the breath of the earth with your body. Take a walk while admiring the beautiful alpine plants!

Mt. Iozan used to be a sulfur mine and boasted the largest sulfur reserves in Hokkaido. Even today, the volcano is still very active, and fumes burst out from everywhere. The famous onsen tamago (hot spring egg) has a unique smell, but is reputed to be delicious. At the foot of the mountain is the Azalea Field, where the white flowers of the Ezo azalea grow in clusters, and you can enjoy the unique scenery of alpine plants growing in the lowlands.
