Ancient Ruins of the Okhotsk Coast

Okhotsk is an area where many archaeological sites have been discovered. Among them, the Tokoro Ruins are the largest in Hokkaido. In the Tokoro Ruins Forest, you can see the remains of cave dwellings from the Satsumon and Jomon cultures, and in the Tokoro Ruins Museum, you can experience ancient history and culture through exhibits of artifacts and reconstructed dwellings from each site. As you visit, you may feel as if you have gone back in time to an ancient world. There are other attractive spots for visiting archaeological sites in the surrounding area, such as the Moyoro Shell Mound (Abashiri City).
