Yachigashira Hot Spring
A large public bathhouse located at the foot of Mt. Hakodate, with free-flowing hot spring water to soothe the fatigue of travel.
Yachigashira Hot Spring has been a popular bathing spot for the local residents since it opened in 1953. The large bathrooms for both men and women are so large that they resemble small gymnasiums, with a row of faucets lining the walls. First-time visitors may be surprised by the size of the baths. The free-flowing hot spring water is brown in color, and, when you soak in the tub, you can barely see anything below your chest. The water contains a lot of iron and is reputed to keep you warm and fuzzy for a long time. The hot spring is open from 6:00 a.m., so you can even enjoy a morning bath in the middle of a stroll. A cafeteria and a sauna are also available.
