White Path

Have you been there yet? The contrast between the "white road" in the Soya Hills and the sea and sky is spectacular!

This must-see scenic destination in northern Hokkaido features a vast hilly landscape characterized by gently undulating terrain. Formed during the last Ice Age, the area’s periglacial topography has been smoothed over millennia to create its distinctive rolling hills. The “Soya Hills Footpath Course” runs through the area, including the popular “White Road,” a stunning 3-kilometer stretch paved with crushed scallop shells near the course's end. Additionally, the Soya Hills Wind Farm, home to 57 turbines, is one of Japan's largest wind power facilities, offering numerous sights to enjoy. (Photo courtesy of Kita Hokkaido DMO)
