Lake Kutcharo
A paradise for migratory birds where untouched nature remains. It is also famous for its sunset view point.
Designated as a Ramsar wetland site, Lake Kutcharo is one of the largest lakes in northern Hokkaido. A place of unspoiled nature, it is home to a variety of creatures, including the endangered white-tailed eagle. The lake is also an important stopover for waterfowl that migrate between Japan and Russia and is filled with thousands of swans and tens of thousands of ducks during the spring and autumn migration seasons. From the Waterfowl Observation Center by the lake, you can observe the birds closely, as well as enjoy the spectacular view of the setting sun on the lake. There is also a campground, hot springs, and a swan park.
