Lake Shikaribetsu

The highest lake in Hokkaido is a "paradise above the clouds" where ancient nature still remains.

Located in the south of the vast Daisetsuzan National Park, Lake Shikaribetsu is surrounded by 1000 meters high mountains, where unspoiled nature still remains. The lake itself is located at an altitude of 810 meters, the highest point in Hokkaido, so even if the weather is cloudy on the way to the lake, when you get there you’ll emerge into a “paradise above the clouds.” The clear, cloudless sky, the blue surface of the lake, and the surrounding greenery combine to create a world of blue and green. From the fresh green of spring to the summer, the area is crowded with people enjoying outdoor sports, and the autumn leaves are exceptionally beautiful. In winter, you can experience a different world of ice and sub-zero temperatures.
