Shirataki Geopark Exchange Center
Feel the Earth's activity at one of Japan's largest obsidian production sites
In 2010, the town of Engaru, which was recognized as a Japan Geopark as Shirataki Geopark, has one of the largest production areas of obsidian in Japan. At the Shirataki Geopark Exchange Center on the first floor, the story of the birth of obsidian is explained through displays and videos, and at the Buried Cultural Properties Center on the second floor, a large number of stone tools excavated from the Shirataki archaeological site and the lives of people 20,000 years ago are introduced.
