Kakinoshima Site
Largest scale of earthen remains used for rituals and ceremonies in Japan
This is the site of a settlement that lasted for about 6,000 years, from the early to the late Jomon period. The remains of pit buildings, earthen tombs, and many artifacts excavated at this settlement site provide a glimpse into the lives of the Jomon people. Many valuable artifacts have been unearthed, and a clay tablet with a child's foot print has been found in a group of pit tombs.
