Hachiman-zaka (Hachiman Slope) is one of the most popular slopes in Hakodate for its view of the sea from the top of the hill. It once became famous as a location for a TV commercial. Stairs with handrails along both sidewalks and road heating on the sidewalks to prevent slipping in winter lead visitors comfortably up the slope. The stone-paved path straight to the sea is one of the most exotic and representative slopes of Hakodate. In winter, it is decorated with Hakodate Illuminations, transforming it into an even more romantic sight.
