Upopoy (National Ainu Museum and Park)

The first national museum in Japan to focus on the Ainu indigenous people.

"Upopoi (National Ainu Museum and Park)" is located on the shore of Lake Poroto, surrounded by the lush forests of Shiraoi. It consists of the National Ainu Museum, Japan's first national museum dedicated to the indigenous Ainu people, and the National Park for the Coexistence of Peoples, an interactive field museum where visitors can experience Ainu culture through traditional dance performances and a variety of hands-on programs. The "Poroto Kitchen," a cooking experience limited to two groups per day, is also being held. To prevent the spread of the new strain of coronavirus, a reservation system for the date of admission has been introduced. Visitors to the museum will need two reservation tickets: one for the date and time of entry to the National Ainu Museum, and one for the date of entry to Upopoi.
