Former Takeshiro Nagayama Residence and Former Mitsubishi Mining Dormitory, Sapporo

An architectural space where you can experience two different eras and styles: Meiji and Showa, Japanese and Western

The former Takeshiro Nagayama Residence was built around 1877 as a private residence. It is highly regarded as a good example of an upper-class residence in Hokkaido during the first half of the Meiji era. Later, in 1911, the land and building of the Nagayama Residence were acquired by Mitsubishi Limited Partnership, and around 1937, the Mitsubishi Mining Dormitory was added to the building. This is a modern Western-style building with beautiful gables and round windows with half-timber motifs, white wood and a green roof. The two buildings, one from the Meiji era and the other from the Showa era, one Japanese and the other Western, coexist in different periods and styles, which is of great architectural value and worth seeing. On the first floor of the former Mitsubishi Mining Dormitory is the "Nagayama Rest," a coffee shop with a blend of Japanese and Western styles. You can enjoy a nostalgic Western-style menu in a historical building.
