Ginkgo and Poplar Trees of Hokkaido University

A natural landscape representative of Hokkaido University.

On the Hokkaido University campus, Ginkgo Avenue stretches approximately 380 meters, with 70 ginkgo trees lining both sides. These trees reach their peak autumnal splendor from late October to early November, when their golden foliage is a sight to behold. The Poplar Avenue was initially planted in 1903 as a small-scale poplar forestation project. Later, in 1912, forestry students planted additional trees as part of their fieldwork, creating the avenue as it stands today. Visitors can enjoy an approximately 80-meter walk along the path, which is paved with wood chips.
