G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit Memorial Museum
Hokkaido's first summit of major countries. Bask in the afterglow.
The G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, the first summit of major countries ever held in Hokkaido, took place in July 2008. In addition to the eight major countries, the leaders of African countries, Australia, India, and Brazil discussed environmental problems and other various global issues. At the Memorial Museum, conference tables and chairs used during the summit are preserved, where visitors can actually sit down and take commemorative photos. The museum also displays materials related to the summit, such as the gifts brought from the leaders of each country. There is also a panel showing the leaders lined up with Lake Toya in the background, and a face-in-the-hole board with the leaders' ladies surrounding a woman wearing a juni-hitoe (twelve-layered kimono), which makes for interesting photo opportunities.
