Wakkanai Port North Breakwater Dome
A breakwater that supports safe living. It has a power and presence reminiscent of ancient Roman architecture.
The North Breakwater Dome of Wakkanai Port, built over a period of five years to prevent accidents caused by frequent tidal waves, is a half-arched structure 13.6 meters high, with 70 thick columns lined up in a regular pattern reminiscent of ancient Roman architecture. Designated as Hokkaido Heritage in 2001, it is now a symbol of Wakkanai Port. On the seawall in front of the dome is a 215-meter-long promenade called Shiosai Promenade, where you can take a leisurely stroll while enjoying the sea breeze and the view of the ocean.
